Martha Eddy, Ed.D. is a dance educator, exercise physiologist and Registered Somatic Movement Therapist. Her decade of work on the faculties of the School for Body-Mind Centering and in Laban Movement Studies influenced her to develop her own Dynamic Embodiment Somatic Movement Therapy Training. She maintains a private practice specializing with children and adults, and provides educational consulting and evaluation in public schools and dance programs worldwide. As director of the Center for Kinesthetic Education she has implemented Peaceful Play Program for recess enhancement in New York City based on her doctoral research, “The Role of Physical Activity in Educational Violence Prevention Programs for Youth.”
Her articles and chapters have been published in research, arts, and educational literature. Her upcoming book Mindful Movement can be found in the University of Chicago Press catalog. She is an advisor to BalletMet on developmental research implemented with Head Start. She has also developed Moving For Life, a holistic exercise program for cancer patients. Eddy remains active as a performer, teacher of BodyMind Dancing and has served on numerous boards including the Yard, National Dance Education Organization, the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA) and the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS).
